EVALUATIONS: It is time for our athletes to come in to participate in a basic evaluation, we will put them through basic drills, and confirm uniform sizing for the season. For the evals you do NOT have to stay the entire time listed below. You can come any time during the listed hours to be evaluated. Please note our 5th grade and up players will be participating in a scrimmage. It is recommended that your athlete wears sneakers, shorts, and a T-shirt, basic gym wear for the evals. The purpose of the evaluation is to get a baseline for our team to be able to create fair and equitable teams for the season. You MUST attend one of the evaluations below. If you cannot attend your scheduled eval please make plans to come to an alternate eval date. @coaches/parents- if you have availability to help during the evals we can use an extra set of hands, all you need is a 30 second timer, let me know if you can help. - Saturday October 14th, 9-1PM ( Foyer, Music Room, Cove + WC) K/5-4th grade boys/girls - Saturday October 21st , 9-1PM ( Foyer, Music Room, Cove + WC) 5th-10th grade boys/girls (scrimmages) - Tuesday October 24th , 6-830PM ( Foyer, Room 8 & 9, Cove + WC) Any remaining athletes, makeup date looking forward to seeing you all there.
VOLUNTEERING: you might think that we have enough volunteers, and we don't need help, but in order to effectively run the full basketball season with 500+ total athletes we will need over 200 volunteers in coaches, referees, AV/Tech, Concessions, Prayer Warriors, Setup/teardown crew, cleanup crew, the list goes on. If you have one of the three following traits we can use you as an Upward volunteer this season. 1) a passion for kids, 2) a passion for Christ, 3) a passion for sports. Sorry shameless plug over, reach out if you have an interest and want to get involved this season. COACHES: For those looking to jump into the coaching ranks we have the following Coaches Trainings coming up at Northside Church, you would only need to attend ONE of these trainings not all of them. Again, you do not have to be a basketball genius to coach Upward- we can use you as an assistant or faith coach and always need good mentors. Please let me know which one of these coaches training you plan to attend so we can coordinate food. Mike Loucy has served with Upward for the past 12 season. Mike has been a faithful leader to our program and servant to the Lord in this ministry. Mike has been a blessing to our Upward community for more than a decade and he is making the transition into a new season as being a busy grandfather of 10 grandchildren. Mike will pursue the blessing of investing in his grandchildren with his wife Debbie and traveling the east coast to see them. Mike leaves behind a strong leadership team that is still focused to do whatever it takes to share the Gospel through the sport of basketball and cheerleading. Mike thank you for your leadership and dedication. We are pleased to announce that Brian Kelly will be our new league Director for our Upward program. Brian has been involved with Upward for the past 10 seasons. He has served as a coach, coach commissioner, and most recently as the director of coaches. Brian has grown up knowing the Lord and basketball and as league director he can use both of his passions to serve the Upward community. Brian is the husband to Rachel and the father of Evelyn and Henry. When Brian is not busy with his young family, he loves to still compete in basketball leagues in the area. Please join us in welcoming Brian as our new League Director.
This weekend we would have been honoring our young athletes as they celebrate their senior season. We are excited that we are able to still honor 20 of our young athletes in cheerleading and basketball that would have experienced their senior night. We will be unveiling a special tribute to those athletes and families this Friday evening. Please join us Friday as we celebrate these individuals.
Well I wanted to take a moment and share to our Upward community how we miss you all. It is different not seeing so many of you. Our leadership team and volunteers are experiencing a void of missing the sounds of cheers, the celebrations of athletes making baskets, the cheers and exhortations of our cheerleaders, and of course the gatherings of people to share life and enjoy concessions. I am confident this goes beyond our servants and is void in the families of our program. Upward is more than basketball and cheerleading, it is a time where so many of us with busy and hectic lives gather indoor during the snowy cold season of CNY and share our time together. We invest in each others lives. I deeply miss this time with you all. It is a privilege to have so many come and share in the Upward experience at Northside. So I wanted to encourage you to share Facebook memories as they pop up from seasons passed. What has Upward meant to you? The year 2020 has been a year of change for all of us amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. There are still many unknowns we are all dealing with and circumstances are changing almost daily. Due to the ongoing pandemic, the leadership of Northside Church and the Upward Leadership Team has made the decision to cancel our upcoming season. The health and safety of our young athletes and their families is our first priority and we believe this decision is best for our young athletes, parents and volunteers. Even though we will not be having a winter season, the Upward Leadership Team will continue to fulfill our mission of promoting the discovery of Jesus. We also realize that as parents you are facing difficult challenges and decisions regarding school, day care and employment. The Upward Leadership Team is committed to pray for you and your family as you face these decisions. If you have a specific prayer request, please email the details to www.upwardcny.org/prayer-request/. All specific prayer requests will remain confidential. In addition, if you do not have a church home, we would like to invite you to Northside Church. We have services every weekend on Saturday night at 6:00 PM and Sunday at 9:00 AM and 11:00 AM. We encourage you to either join us either in person (prior registration required) or online in the comfort of your home at www.northsideonline.org. We also have an app that can be accessed from the App Store or Google Play (Search - Northside Church Liverpool) that will keep you connected to activities and upcoming events at the church.
